Aurawave firmware version 1.2 expands the capabilities of the AW100 platform with new broadcast configuration options, enhanced Auracast™ sink functionality, and improved reliability for deployed systems.
Developed by Cloud2GND in collaboration with Ezurio, Aurawave Firmware Version 1.2 makes LE Audio and Auracast™ development more flexible and easier to deploy in real-world environments. With support for multiple broadcast channels, independent broadcast sink operation, and automatic reconnection to known broadcasts, Version 1.2 provides developers with additional tools to build production-ready wireless audio solutions.
What’s New in Firmware v1.2
Multi-Channel Broadcast Support
Aurawave can now transmit multiple independent broadcast channels within a single Auracast™ broadcast.
This enables use cases such as:
- Multiple language streams for public venues, museums, transportation systems, and guided tours
- Separate audio feeds within the same broadcast
- Flexible audio routing for custom applications
Each broadcast channel can be assigned its own audio source channel, allowing developers to create more sophisticated broadcast experiences without requiring additional hardware.
Independent Auracast™ Sink Functionality
This release significantly expands the capabilities of the Aurawave Broadcast Sink.
Developers can now:
- Scan for available broadcasts
- Explore broadcast details before connecting
- Synchronize to specific broadcasts
- Stop and restart synchronization as needed
- Select audio output devices directly
These additions make the sink functionality a standalone feature rather than a demonstration mode, providing greater flexibility when developing receiver-based applications.
Automatic Broadcast Re-Synchronization
One of the most requested deployment features is now available.
Aurawave Broadcast Sink configurations can now be saved and automatically restored after power cycles. When configured, the sink will automatically reconnect to a broadcast source with the same name after either device is restarted.
This simplifies deployment in installations where devices may lose power or require periodic maintenance, reducing the need for manual intervention.
Consistent Broadcast IDs
Each Aurawave board now ships with a persistent broadcast identifier derived from the hardware itself.
This provides a predictable and repeatable broadcast identity across reboots while still allowing developers to manually configure broadcast IDs when needed.
For manufacturers and integrators, this creates a more reliable foundation for deployment and device management.
Reliability Improvements
Several bug fixes and stability enhancements are also included in v1.2:
- Improved Broadcast Source ID parsing for Broadcast Sink operation
- Improved persistence of Broadcast Source IDs when saving configurations
- Additional synchronization reliability improvements
SDK Update
Aurawave Firmware v1.2 is now built on Nordic nRF Connect SDK 3.2.1, bringing the platform in line with the latest Nordic LE Audio software infrastructure.
Firmware v1.2 continues Cloud2GND’s focus on making Bluetooth® LE Audio and Auracast™ development more practical for real-world products and deployments. By expanding broadcast flexibility, improving sink functionality, and enhancing system reliability, this release gives developers additional tools to accelerate their path from prototype to production.
Example Applications
The new multi-channel broadcast capabilities open the door to a wide range of LE Audio and Auracast™ deployments.
Public Address and Transportation Systems
Provide separate audio channels for different zones, languages, or announcements within airports, train stations, transit systems, and large public venues.
Museums and Guided Tours
Deliver multiple language options simultaneously, allowing visitors to select their preferred audio experience without requiring dedicated receiver hardware for each language.
Assistive Listening Systems
Support multiple listening programs within a single venue, giving users greater flexibility while simplifying system deployment and management.
Digital Signage and Kiosks
Broadcast location-specific content, product information, or promotional audio to nearby listeners while maintaining separate channels for different experiences.
Conference and Event Venues
Enable attendees to select language translations, breakout sessions, or specialized audio feeds from a single Auracast™ broadcast infrastructure.
Commercial Audio Products
Create next-generation speakers, streamers, and audio systems that deliver multiple independent audio experiences from a single broadcast source.
